I’ve been working on Abstract Intermission paintings for many years. The intermissions are the gaps or pauses that we encounter. Moments that are important to me because I can release the ego and be conscious of my own being. The process of creation allows me to be fully present in the moment, to be free of judgment and to allow freedom in the materials, the paint, to let go and not overwork it. Because nature never fails to ignite artistic inspiration in me, the paintings are reminiscent of natural formations, decay, and a landscape of being in the moment, where masculinity and femininity reveal themselves from my own personal biome.
36” x 48”, oil on canvas, 2023
Painting (and video art) are the perfect mediums for me to simultaneously engage and express my femininity and masculinity. I believe each person is their own biome, each like a little planet complete with energy fields, polarities, weather systems, fullness and emptiness.

The texture and scraping away of paint to reveal hints of color beneath make this painting more than a black and white depiction. A wall is never black and white even if the initial impression is so. The painting was completed as a reaction to the war in Ukraine, as well as socio-political forces, including those in the art world, related to walls and allowing entry or denying access.
